Elín Signý Ragnarsdóttir / IS 1991 is an artist based in Reykjavik. She works in a variety of medium that spans the fields of performance, dance, film, fine arts, installation and writing.
Elin is interested in creating art that affects the society. Art is often a vehicle for social change. It can give voice to the politically or socially disenfranchised. A song, film or novel can rouse emotions in those who encounter it, inspiring them to rally for change. How can Elin's work inspire audience to rally for change? And how can audience remember her presentation?
She studied contemporary dance at the Iceland Academy of the Arts, graduating 2013. That same year she was nominated for Gríman, The Icelandic Performing Arts Award, as the choreographer and the dancer of the year for her solo creation Ironsuet, performed at Reykjavík Dance Festival 2013. Elín Signý has worked as a freelance dancer and choreographer both in Iceland and abroad since her graduation. She has been touring with collaboration projects and her own work. 2017 she got another nomination as the dancer of the year for her role in Sacrifice with The Icelandic Dance Company.
Elin Signy is currently dancing/touring with the Icelandic Dance Company, working on her short film; Thy will be done, and writing a poetry book.
